6 months have passed since I shot Anthony and Melini's engagement photos on New Years Eve 2010 and their big day has finally come and passed. I really enjoy shooting kids. They run around without a care in the world enjoying life to the fullest. Last week I got a chance to take photos of the Johnson family which includes; Garrett, LaKenya, Kyndall, Roque and the little baby to be. I met them on one of the local military bases in the DC area. Garrett serves our country proudly as a Marine and him and his wife have been family friends for years. The shoot was centered around Kyndall and Roque who are both full of energy and are as fun as you can be. Vendor Spotlight: Cupcake Pavilion

I have always had a sweet tooth and have finally found the place to satisfy it. Cupcake Pavilion is a new bakery in Waldorf, MD specializing in of course "Cupcakes". From Strawberry to Lemon flavored, Cookie Dough, Red Velvet, and Tiramisu the list goes on and on. The owner Michelle Savage has truly added a new hidden gem to Waldorf that will definitely satisfy your taste buds. The store is located at 11850 Park Waldorf Ln in Ste 109. This past weekend I had a great time doing a engagement shoot at Glen Echo Park in Glen Echo, MD. The parks seems to be a old carnival area that is still used for many events and is very popular for families. It is filled with vibrant colors and was perfect location for my shoot with Michael and Lindsey. We walked around the park and captured some great shots while still enjoying carnival treats of popcorn and funnel cakes. Warren and I have been friends since our college days at FAMU. So i was ecstatic when he asked me to photograph a small intimate wedding service for him and his fiance. I have worked with Erin several times this year and had a great time capturing her family. After previously finishing pictures for Erin on the Odyssey boat ride Erin let me know that she missed out on engagement photos with Terry and thought it would fun to take "couple photos" even though she was already married. The cherry blossoms were on their last leg but we decided to take photos around them and capture the warmth and pretty pink buds before they fell off the trees. I really had a great time working with Maurice and Tiffany. We met on the national mall close to one of the Smithsonian Museums and then worked our way towards the Jefferson memorial and Cherry blossoms. Right in the middle of the shoot a great gust of air hit us and then it being to rain hard. But despite the rain we were able to finish up and get some great shots. I was also delighted to find out Maurice was one of my fraternity brothers Kappa Alpha Psi. I wish them both well I look forward to working with them again in the future. The forecast called for rain all day this past Saturday. However mother nature took note that Dwayne and Catherine had important engagement pictures to take and postponed itself for us. I had previously exchanged emails with Catherine over the past month trying to find the best time we could meet where there would be weather. We both agreed that the blooming of the Cherry Blossoms was a perfect occasion to take photos. We met on the National Mall by the Washington Monument and worked our way around the area. It is always great to see a friend find that special somebody to spend their life with. Jamil and I have been friends since Freshman year at Florida A&M University. We both moved to the DC Metro area after graduation and started our careers in the area. We have hung out together, been roommates and have been there for each other in tough situations. So I was happy to hear when Jamil let me know that he "popped" the question to his girlfriend Tiffany. They are truly meant for each other and I am happy that god blessed each one with the others presence. We met this past Saturday on the National mall to take pictures during the Cherry blossom festival. Despite the crowds and the forecast for rain we were able to get the shoot done with great success. I have had the pleasure of working with Erin in the past and was ecstatic when she asked me to take a few pictures of her family on the Odyssey cruise. The cruise was awesome followup to the couple exchanging nuptials in a private ceremony earlier that day. On the cruise with their wonderful family and friends I had a great time laughing, eating and capturing the kids being kids. The Odyssey moved along the potomac while the guest on board were privileged to a delicious brunch and band. The setting was perfect to capture pictures of family gathering and the surrounding D.C. area. The pictures came out great and I look forward to capturing pictures of the newlyweds, Terry and Erin, later this week.

Spring is in the air in although you wouldn't know it by the temperature in the District. Despite the cold weather Eric and Ashley braved the temperatures with me to get some great shots throughout Washington D.C. Losing a love one is of the hardest things to face in life. It is through the grace of god that we make it thru these tough times and are strong enough to continue on. Clarice, who I have known since my college days, contacted me about doing a "In Remembrance" shoot for her older sister who passed away a few years ago. We decided to shoot at the National Cathedral which is a great location with it's historic architecture. We talked, laughed and reflected on memories of her sister. The section of D.C. known as Georgetown is known for many things. The prestigious Georgetown University, it's beautiful pricey real estate, and great shopping on M street. It is also known for it's great waterfront which was the site of my latest shoot. Last December DHT Photography donated a session to The Lady Von Scholarship Fund Auction. This great organization helps to provide scholarships for dedicated students seeking a higher level of education. The auction winners for my services were Caroline Lang and her fiance Torrance Hill. From the start we had a great time working together. They were truly full of energy and fun to work with. I congratulate them on their summer wedding in the Caribbean later this year. December 31, 2010 was the perfect day to have a celebration. To think back on the good times of the 2010 year and to celebrate what is to come in 2011. Anthony and Melini thought this would be the perfect day to take their engagement photos celebrating their nuptials to be in 2011. We were blessed with 50 degree weather which is definitely a change over the regular sub 30 degree weather Ohio is known for. It's always good to see friends during the holidays. One of my closest friends, Michael Lipford, asked me to come by and catch a few photos of his family. Alicia has a special birthday coming up next February. But why wait to celebrate with new photos! Alicia proactively contacted me to do a photo shoot knowing the weather would probably take a turn for the worse around her actual birthday. So we decided to meet up last Saturday and take a few photos in Chevy Chase, MD. We shot on Wisconsin Ave on the luxurious strip that is known as Washington's "Rodeo Drive". Housing signature stores such as Gucci and Barney's of New York set the perfect stage for a great photo shoot with a wonderful lady. We enjoyed ourselves and were able to get some pretty good photos. Last weekend I had the pleasure of taking Christmas photos for The Weatherington family. It was definitely fun seeing the family interact and express their love during the festive occasion. The reunion was a two day event that started with a meet and greet at "A Touch of Italy" restaurant in Shaker Hts., OH and concluded with their reunion at "The Mercury Lounge" in downtown Cleveland, OH. The reunion was filled with laughter, fun and fellowship. It was also very special for me being a 1997 graduate of Shaker Hts. High School and my wife being a part of the 2000 reunion. The Weather is changing and Football Season is in Full swing. Last weekend I had the pleasure of shooting the engagement photos of two football fanatics like myself; Jules and Jessica. We decided to shoot in Annapolis, MD because this is where Jessica grew up and it also has so much to offer with the historic 1700's style buildings. We started the engagement session in this area and then finished at Annapolis high which is Jessica's alma mater. Jessica proudly wore her New England Patriots jersey while Jules supported the home town Redskins. The session turned out great and I was able to learn more about a cause near and dear to Jessica's heart, Breast Cancer awareness. Jessica lost her mother to this horrible disease and has done her part to fundraise to help find a cure. Overall I really enjoyed working with the couple and look forward to shooting their wedding next Fall.

As a photographer I love shooting vibrant couples. It makes my job much easier and the pictures always come out better. Yesterday I had the wonderful opportunity of shooting fellow FAMU alumnus Britttany Gadsden and her fiance Charvis Bates. We decided to shoot down at the Lincoln Memorial, WWII Memorial and on the U Street corridor in Washington D.C. The weather was beautiful which allowed us to get some great shots. We had a great time joking around as they playfully argued which was better; North Carolina (Charvis' home) or South Carolina (Brittany's home) and it came across pretty well in the photos. Canton, OH is the home of the NFL Hall of Fame, great high school football and was the location of my wedding this past weekend. John Lucius and Ashley Paul were married at the Canton Civic Center on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. On April 7, 2000 34 individuals joined the Alpha Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi and became one of the most highly achieved and well versed lines in Kappa History. 10 years later the group reconvened to celebrate their 10 year anniversary in San Jose and Jaco Beach, Costa Rica. The celebration was one for the ages and i decided to post a few pics from the occasion.

Baltimore Beauty, Fashion, Boudoir: Photography Club

This past weekend I was referred to the Baltimore Beauty, Fashion and Boudoir photography club. Each month the members of this organization meet up to practice their photography skills and share different shooting ideas. July's meeting place took place at Mike P's studio in Baltimore, MD. 5 models were present and we took turns shooting in the studio and around the old rustic warehouse that the studio was in. It is not often that you witness true acts of heroism. However fireman are one of the few figures in society that commit acts of heroism on a daily basis. Chief Jonathan Howard is one of these brave men and is also my brother-in-law. He leads men and women on a daily basis to make sure the rest of us remain safe. Last Sunday I had to chance to get a tour and take a few photos of him and his wife Joy at Engine 43 Company in Bowie, MD. The Different Sides: Sonia

Sonia has many different interest. By day she is a leading sales representative for a large Pharmaceutical company in the DC area. But after work is when you really see what makes Sonia tick. There is nothing more precious than witnessing different milestones in your children's life. This past Sunday we celebrated the birthdays of my two daughters Zoe and Skyler. Alexandria Skate Park

Today I visited the Alexandria Skate Park found 5 minutes from Old Town Alexandria on Duke St. The park was filled with kids ranging from 5 to 20 years of age working on becoming the next Tony Hawk. Time after time most fell but got back up until they perfected the different moves they were working on. It was very exciting to see these moves in person for the first time and the boarders were nice enough to let me capture a few shots. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Courtney and Denise have been friends for years. Courtney and I go all the way back to FAMU where we have been frat brothers for over 10 years. I have had the pleasure through out the years to witness their wedding, the birth of the their first child Ashley and eagerly anticipate the new addition due this Fall. When they asked me to do a session of their family I was very happy and we had a great time. We shot the photos at Brookside Gardens in Silver Spring, MD. This location is tucked away but has so much to see and enjoy for all families. I definitely recommend this location for all photographers. I hope you enjoy the photos.

HDR Shoot 2: U Street Washington DC

I first tried my hand at HDR photos about a month ago. Please see my first post from April. Yesterday I decided to go out for a second time and try my hand at HDR photos again. I decided to go shoot on U street in NW D.C. I have loved the U street corridor since moving to the DC Metro area in 2003. It is a collection of restaurants, lounges, clubs and everything else your heart can desire for fun. From the Historic Ben's Chili Bowl to Bus Boy and Poets this area offers so much to so many. My wife and I have enjoyed dining at Eatonville and grabbing a cocktail at Alero which is part of the Ellington building. There is so much to offer to all people. I hope you all enjoy.

Anna Crosby: Black Background

I purchased a umbrella set and a Black background off of Ebay last month and decided to test it out on my sister-in-law. We centered the shoot around things that she is fond of. Fashion, Wine and her Iphone. I played with the different settings and was able to get some pretty good shots for my first shoot using this equipment. I hope you enjoy.

On May 22, 2010 I was fortunate enough to be the photographer of Jimmy and Keli Jones Wedding. The wedding took place in the new facilities of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was once pastor. The event was a joyous occasion seeing a old friend Jimmy marry Kelli; a beautiful, vibrant better-half. The reception moved over to the Hilton hotel where the guest partied the night away. This past weekend I had the pleasure of staying with some old college friends while in Atlanta to shoot a wedding. Maurice and Alexis Stewart just had a baby girl two weeks ago named Baby Marley. She is the most adorable baby and was fun to capture. They also have a rambunctious three year old named Miles that kept me on my toes trying to photograph him before he ran off to play. Springtime Engagement

The Cherry Blossoms are finally gone and have returned the area surrounding the Jefferson memorial to its normal self. However this area has much more to offer then just Cherry Blossoms and was the sight of a Engagement shoot I did last week. My First Try at HDR photos

So I've been wanting to try my hand at HDR photos for sometime so this past weekend I decided to grab my camera and tripod and see what I could produce. HDR or High Dynamic Range photos allows the photographer to take 5 of the exact same photo at different exposures and then piece them all together to create one High Dynamic Range Photo. I thought they looked pretty cool myself and wanted to share it with everyone. I hope you enjoy.

Tea Party Rally before the Health Care Vote

Yesterday was a Historic event in America. Health Care Reform passed through the House and is expected to be signed in to law by President Obama in the next 72 hours. For many this was a joyous day meaning that they would finally be able to afford health care. But for others this was a huge disappointment. Before the bill was voted on yesterday evening around 11PM I was fortunate enough to try my hand at photojournalistic photography and capture a few photos at a Tea Party rally that took place directly in front of the U.S. Capitol. These photos capture the thoughts and views of the participants at the Rally and not of DHT Photography.

On March 6 I travelled out to Las Vegas to attend the WPPI convention, the largest wedding photography convention in the world. During my time in Vegas I was able to shoot the engagement photos of a few friends Brian and Valerie who also are from Cleveland but now reside in Vegas. We hung out around the MGM Grand and took in many of its great attractions. I had a great time with the couple taking photos...and partying the night before! Hope you enjoy.

Gwen + Endion: Engaged

On December 26, 2009 I met with soon to be Endion and Gwen Williams to shoot an engagement session. From minute one the couple had me laughing for the next two hours. We traveled around University Circle (Case Western Reserve's campus) exploring many locations and what the couple could do to top their poses from the previous location. From ice skating to gracing the grounds of the Cleveland Art Museum we had a great time. The shoot concluded with an engagement party later that night. This past Saturday I had a wonderful time with Gwen and Endion. During the day we shot engagement photos which are in the post above and that night we celebrated their engagement. The party was at a Hooka bar on the west side of Cleveland that presented a exotic atmosphere for the festivities. The night was filled with good food, fun people and entertainment by a Belly Dancer. The two of them were extremely fun and i look forward to shooting their wedding labor day weekend 2010.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of shooting my friend Laura and her dog Bugsy at a dog park in Arlington, VA. I watched while Laura let Bugsy run around the park with 30+ dogs of all different breeds. It really was a nice place where dogs could be free and have fun. And it also made for some great photos. A friend of mine had an extra ticket to the Legg Mason Tennis Classic on August 5. I was unaware that this prestigous tennis tournament takes place every year in Washingotn D.C. I grabbed my Nikon D700 and 80-200 f2.8 lens and was able to get some good shots of the match between Germany' Benjamin Becker and The United States Andy Roddick. I hope you enjoy. Jarred and I have been friends for a long time. We pledged the same fraternity in college in Florida, then both moved to the Washington D.C. area after graduating. So of course I looked forward to shooting he and fiance Amber's engagemnt session this March.
We spent a couple of hours in Georgetown and at the National Building Museum in China Town. Despite it being a grey day (and cold)the shoot turned out well and I wish them both a wonderful wedding this September in Los Angeles.
